All A Buzz

St. Louis is kind of in a tizzy right now because the CARDINALS WON THE WORLD SERIES!!! It's very exciting. Sunday they had a parade showcasing the players, and we were there. It was hard to get a good picture because there were so so many people there, but John did take some really good ones. The players were all really excited, and the crowd was all pumped up. Memorable.

I Ain't As Good As I Once Was.

The Halloween Party was a big success from my point of view. We drank all but about a bottle or two of the 5 gallons of pumpkin beer, so that was good. People showed up in some very creative costumes, so that's good. The rest I'm going to blame on Chuck, though. He told me I wasn't drunk enough, and I agreed, and went directly to the kitchen, opened the freezer door, and got out the special stash of cold, straight-from-Germany Jagermeister. My one friend. Most everyone did a shot with me, including Sharon and Chuck. I should have made Chuck drink more. One of the worst things about being drunk for me, is that I can remember everything. I remember being very very LOUD! And I remember getting all fired up about gourds, and thong underwear, and college kids wearing condoms. I remember repeating myself a hundred times, and having exact conversations I've had with people before, like singing My Immortal. I remember thinking it's a good idea to buy pot from a cop, and that I should sing Sheriff's "When I'm With You" at kereoke in Ste. Genevieve.

Oh, man, did I feel like Shit yesterday. With a capital "S." Since I have turned 31 I have had two of the worst hangovers in my life. If this is what it's like to get old, this sucks. I couldn't get out of bed to say good bye to Christy and Jerry at 9 a.m., nor could I get out of bed to say good bye to Bart and Sarah at 11 a.m. We barely made it to the Cardinals parade (pictures of that tomorrow) and I wouldn't have gone at all if I didn't love John so much and knew that he wanted to go so badly. Man, that friend of mine, Jager, stabbed me in the back. Yuck.

"I ain't as good as I once was
Thats just the cold hard truth
I still throw a few back, talk a little smack
When I'm feelin' bullet proof" -Toby Keith

They came as our cats. How brilliant. There's Java, Chester, with Tony Danza on her shoulder, and Tabasco. They even had collars and name tags.

One of my favorite pictures from Saturday night; Dad in dread locks. Also, in all our picture taking craziness, we forgot to take a picture of ourselves. Anyone have one they can email to me?

The Bacon Debate

Sometime last week I put up a post about yet another household debate, but then took it down after only a couple minutes because it seemed stupid. Not because I thought I had already lost, but because it is a long story, and there's no way to explain it without telling you who is on what side. I think Mike was the only one who saw it, and I thought no one had saw it, because really it was up there less than a half hour. Since then I have thought about the debate, and have explained it to a couple people, and I have deemed it worthwhile to try to explain again. By the way, the last household debate about the energizer bunny still needs to be solved; scroll down, and then comment.

The discussion went like this:

I made a soup out of a bone from the beef from the farm. The bone had some meat around it, and after cooking it, I smeared the marrow onto a piece of bread. I offered John some, and he declined because he thought eating bone marrow was gross. I said it was one of the best tasting things around. John said it couldn't taste better than bacon. I then said that marrow is a natural product, and bacon is not a natural product. This is where the heart of the debate lies. John says that fire is natural and smoking the part of the pig that makes bacon is natural and therefore bacon is just as if not more of a natural product than marrow. I say that smoking meat is a man made process, therefore, bacon is not a natural product. John says that fire is natural, it occurs in nature by lightning. I say that fire, in the sense of fire used to smoke meat, is man made. He is flabbergasted with the fact that I said fire is man made.

So what do you think?

ummm.... can you repeat the question?

Last weekend we made apple butter at the farm. We bought dad a copper kettle for Father's Day, and we used our old family recipe. It's a tradition our family has kept every couple of years since I can remember. Probably some of my earliest memories are of making apple butter with my dad's side of the family. It's mighty tasty, and we have LOTS to share.
